A House For Children
I got quite a bit done yesterday and today. I picked up some things at Ikea, rummaged through the garage, "stole" things from my children's bedrooms (shhh!), and had fun choosing items, keeping in mind of all of the criteria I'm working with. Everything is for children. Must be baby safe, so no glass and no tiny pieces. Must be natural materials, so no plastic (or very little!). And of course I pulled out my Montessori materials and still have some to get out.
So, here it is so far! I've still got tables and chairs to put together that I bought at Ikea (they match the set that is in the picture). Thanks for taking a look!

Humble Beginnings!
I set up a small part of the living room just to give an idea of what I have in mind. I plan to work on making/painting new shelving this weekend as well as gathering more of my materials from the garage and basement. Then I'll figure out what I need to buy and/or make for the space. I'm very excited and this is a long time coming. I have been gathering and purchasing materials for the last several years, in addition to thinking about how I would run my own school.
I'll post more information about the curriculum and schedule as soon as possible! Please stay tuned!
In Home Montessori School Coming Soon!
Hi,
I am looking to start a small Montessori community in a vacant upper lever duplex apartment that we own. This space would be dedicated only to the program and will be licensed for in home childcare. It's located in S. Minneapolis in the Kingfield neighborhood - near Nicollet and 39th street.
I am a certified Montessori trained teacher for 3-6 year olds and taught for 3 years as a lead teacher (and several years assisting) before I stayed home with my two children for seven years (they are now 7 and 4.5). I have current CPR and First Aid training.
The idea is to have a small mixed age group of children infant-5 years old (no more than 3 children under 2 years old and no more than 8 children total). I own many Montessori materials and will be making and purchasing materials based on the ages of children I will be working with.
I also plan to have a daily schedule, monthly curriculum and activities such as baking and soup making in addition to art activities. We will spend lots of time outdoors and have a garden next spring.
It will be open 5 days a week 7:30am-5:30pm with some flexiblity for varying schedules. Full or part time hours possible. Not sure about the rates I will be charging and am open to reasonable offers. Let me know if you are interested in meeting and seeing the space or if you have any questions.
Thanks for your interest so far!
